The Chagatai Khanate was a Central Asian subdivision of the Mongol Empire ruled by descendants of Genghis Khan’s second son, Chagatai (Jaghatai). The family adopted Islam while retaining their nomadic organization and way of life, became independent after 1259, and remained significant until their decline around 1334.
Constitutional decrees and laws attributed to Genghis Khan and enacted throughout the Mongol Empire, forming a significant cultural and legal heritage.
