Biography
Israr Ahmad (1932-2010) was a prominent Islamic scholar, theologian, and the founder and amir (leader) of Tanzeem-i Islami, an Islamic organization striving for the revival of the Islamic faith and governance based on Quranic principles. Born in the Indian Punjab, he graduated from King Edward Medical College in Lahore in 1954.
Early Life and Education
Ahmad initially joined the Jamaat-e-Islami-affiliated student organization, Islami Jamyat-e Talaba, and served as its president. He later became a member of Jamaat-e-Islami but resigned in 1957 due to his disagreement with the party’s decision to participate in the democratic electoral process, which he felt was contrary to the “revolutionary methodology” of Islam.
